Although you should brush your teeth at least twice a day, it is easy to fall short of that target. However, the application of braces requires that your teeth are as clean as possible so that excess tartar and plaque are eliminated. You can help achieve this by brushing your teeth twice a day, once after breakfast and once before you go to bed. You should brush for approximately two minutes each time and using an electric toothbrush can help you to meet that goal.

Brushing alone does not get all of the tartar and plaque buildup that tends to accumulate between teeth and at the gum line. Therefore, it is important to floss your teeth after each brushing so that they are as clean as possible before your orthodontist visit for applying braces.

Step 3: Drink A Lot of Water

Many people do not drink sufficient amounts of water which can cause an assortment of health problems, including to your oral health. Water flushes away toxins and boosts cell and tissue health which is a huge plus when having braces applied. The healthier your teeth and gums are before getting braces, the easier and less painful the process will be.

Step 4: Mental Preparation

A month before getting your braces, prepare yourself mentally for the application and the duration of the process. You can do this by constantly thinking of the many benefits that come from them. Your teeth will be straighter and more evenly spaced, any pain or discomfort from prior dental problems will be eliminated, it will be easier to maintain good oral health, and your smile will be amazing!
